Asset inspectors are vulnerable to electric shock and other electrical risks when they are continuously in contact with electromechanical equipment. The following are the key electrical risks involved in asset inspection operations, as defined by OSHA standard 29 CRF 1910:
- Direct contact with power lines.
- Lack of ground fault protection.
- Path to ground missing or discontinuous.
- Fatal electrocution.
- Risk of burn.
- Risk of falling.
OSHA recommendations require that employees have adequate insulation devices to ensure that equipment is de-energized wherever possible, in addition to providing training for the staff conducting the inspections.
